Official Lightning Lane Guide
It seems like the only constant at Walt Disney World Resort is change! In 2024 Disney introduced the Lightning Lane Service which replaced Genie+ and changed how guests access Lightning Lanes for park attractions. We’re going to try and explain these updates as clearly as possible but your attention is still required!
Genie+ Is Gone
It was retired and replaced with 3 different services all under the name “Lightning Lane”. The free Genie planning service is still available for guests to use in the mobile app to help them plan their day but it does not give you access to anything Lightning Lane aka FastPass Lines.
Lightning Lane Services
There are now three services that offer guests access to attractions Lightning Lanes (the lines that get you on the attractions faster). The first one is Lightning Lane Single Pass followed by Lightning Lane Multi Pass and ending with Lightning Lane Premier Pass. Let’s break them down:
Lightning Lane Single Pass - Purchase these 7 days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World Resort Property Hotel or 3 days in advance if you’re not and up to a total of two for select park attractions not included in Multi Pass (see below). Cost varies by date and attraction (demand pricing). Once you purchase one you’ll select a time window to experience the attraction and go through the Lightning Lane. These are typically used for the bigger, in-demand attractions at each theme park.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass - Purchase these 7 days in advance if you’re staying at a Disney World Resort Property Hotel or 3 days in advance if you’re not. You can select time windows in advance for when you want to experience the attractions after purchase. With Multi Pass you’ll be able to choose 3 attractions to experience using the Lightning Lane.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass - The latest addition to the Lightning Lane service, Premier Pass gives guests the opportunity to experience every single Lightning Lane attraction once during their park visit, with no advanced scheduling (time windows) required. You can just show up when you want and head through the Lightning Lane. Keep in mind that it’s only for attractions that offer Lightning Lane (not all do). These can be purchased in advance the same way as the other two services. Cost is demand pricing (so it changes based on the day) and is only valid for ONE theme park (you can’t Park Hop and use the Premier Pass at a different park).
Let’s Recap Your Lightning Lane Options
Lightning Lane Single Pass allows you to purchase individual passes to select attractions, one at a time and up to two total for a day. You can buy these in advance and select the time you want to experience the attraction.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows you to select 3 Lightning Lane attractions in a day and can be purchased in advance. You’ll also get to choose the time you want to experience each one.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass allows you to experience every single Lightning Lane attraction in a single theme park once and no advance time windows are required. You can simply show up when you and head through the Lightning Lane. It can be purchased in advance as well.
Conclusion
So there you have. You are now either more confused than ever or you’re ready to use the Lightning Lane services for your upcoming vacation! Just keep in mind that you’ll likely want to do all your LL (Lightning Lane) purchases and scheduling in the Walt Disney World app. And you’ll either be able to do it 7 days in advance or 3 days in advance of your first day in the parks.
